Highway 1 Peardonville Storm Pipe Assessment hero
Highway 1 Peardonville Storm Pipe Assessment

I performed the independent structural QA review of pipe loading calculations for an existing 1680 mm (66") Class IV reinforced concrete storm sewer pipe in Abbotsford, BC. The pipe sits beneath the proposed south abutment of the Peardonville Road underpass, part of the Highway 1 widening project. With 7 m of embankment fill and ~80 kPa of surcharge loading planned above the pipe, the question was whether the 37 m section of Class IV pipe could remain in service during construction or whether it would fail.

Westview Reservoir & Pump Station hero
Westview Reservoir & Pump Station

I performed an independent QC review of the finite element model (FEM) for the Westview Reservoir, a City of Calgary water infrastructure project in the southwest quadrant near Alpine Park. The reservoir consists of two 15 ML cylindrical reinforced concrete cells, each 50 m in outside diameter and 9 m tall, partially buried 4 m below grade. A pump station with a 50 ML/d design flow is adjacent. I was selected for the review based on my experience with advanced and complex FEM work.

Parkland Refining Plant Ofc Building Addition hero
Parkland Refining Plant Ofc Building Addition

This was an addition and expansion to the existing Operations Field Centre (OFC) building at the Parkland Refining Plant. The structure was exposed to significant blast loadings. The initial structural design was done by a consulting firm not registered in British Columbia, so it needed an independent review for local code compliance. My role I was the Independent Review Engineer, conducting a third-party assessment of the structural design. What I did:
